BMW Takes the Top Luxury Spot in 2011

Could there possibly be a better way to start off the New Year than hearing the news that BMW has moved into the top spot for luxury auto sales as of the end of 2011? Life Quality BMW doesn't think so. We're pretty happy to share with Brooklyn drivers that as of the beginning of 2012, BMW has bumped some pretty mighty competition from the top spots, and has every intention of keeping said spot in 2012.

We also think it's important to note that it was a very close race for most of the year. As a matter of fact, both BMW and Mercedes-Benz delayed reporting their numbers for nearly a week after most other automakers in the hopes that the other would release their report first. How close were the numbers? Well, BMW sold 247,907 luxury cars in the United States in 2011. The Tri-Pointed Star? Merely a couple thousand less at 245,231. Although, in retrospect, that seems like a decent gap compared to what the number that separated the two in May - just 29 units.

What about Lexus? They've held the top spot for ten full years. And it's no secret that this was a tough year for Japanese automakers - production delays and shortages caused by the unfortunate natural disasters in Asia in 2011 played a major role in the 13 percent sales drop felt by the automaker this year. And, we have to say, despite the setbacks, Lexus put up a pretty good fight this year.

Does that mean BMW will lose ground next year? Doubtful. With a continuing expansion of their eco-conscious, performance driven models defined by the style BMW is famous for, Life Quality BMW is sure the German automaker will hang on to its new title for the foreseeable future.
